What a website costs in Bulgaria (2026)

An honest breakdown of website prices in Bulgaria in 2026 — DIY, freelancer and studio, the hidden costs after launch, and when cheap ends up expensive.

Building a website in Bulgaria in 2026 usually costs 400 to 2,600 EUR for a small-business site, 800 to 12,000+ EUR for an online shop, and from 5,000 EUR upward for a custom platform. A landing page is cheaper — 150 to 1,000 EUR. If you build it yourself with Wix or WordPress, you're looking at 50-360 EUR a year, but you pay with your time. The price comes down mostly to one thing: how long the project takes.

Why is one quote 1,000 EUR and another 10,000 for the "same" site?

Because the "same" is almost never the same. The biggest factor is time, and time is set by scope: template vs custom design, number of pages, functionality (bookings, payments, accounts, filtering), integrations (payment gateways, couriers like Econt and Speedy, ERP/CRM), language versions, and whether copy, photos and SEO are included.

A five-page site on a ready-made template and a site with a hand-built design, written copy and a structure made for Google are two different projects. They look identical in one line of a quote. They are not identical in the work behind them.

So ask for an itemised quote — exactly what's included and what's billed separately. Otherwise you're comparing two numbers that don't mean the same thing.

Freelancer, agency or DIY — what's the difference?

Three paths, three trade-offs.

  • DIY. Cheapest on paper. You pay with time and take on maintenance, security and updates yourself.
  • Freelancer. Usually 20-50% cheaper than an agency. Good value, but it's one person — if they disappear or fall ill, the project stops.
  • Agency. Most expensive. You get a team (design, development, copy, SEO) and long-term support, but a slower, more formal process.

I work somewhere between freelancer and studio: one person writing every line by hand, but with a process and support behind it, here in Sofia.

Can I build it myself with Wix or WordPress?

You can. Wix or Squarespace is a subscription of around 10-30 EUR a month (120-360 EUR a year) — all in one, but you rent the site: stop paying and it goes dark, and moving away is hard. Self-hosted WordPress is "free" software, but you pay for hosting and a domain (50-150 EUR a year) and invest your own time, with security and updates on you.

DIY makes sense if your budget is zero and your time is free. If the site needs to bring in clients, your time is probably worth more than what you save.

What costs a one-time fee, and what costs every month?

My prices are clear, with no surprises. There are two ways to pay — once, or monthly:

  • Landing page — 800 EUR one-time, or 160 EUR/month for the first 6 months, then 50 EUR/month for support.
  • Full website — 1,800 EUR one-time, or 320 EUR/month.
  • Website with CMS (you edit the content yourself) — 2,500 EUR one-time, or 420 EUR/month.

The one-time price is better value if you have the budget now. The monthly option spreads the cost and includes support from day one — handy when cash flow matters more than the final total. The details are on the Services page.

How much does an online shop cost?

More than a regular site, because it's more work. A ready or templated shop starts around 800-1,500 EUR, a standard custom build is 1,000-2,000 EUR, and a larger or agency build runs 2,500 to 12,000+ EUR. The price rises with the number of products, payment methods, courier integrations (Econt, Speedy) and ERP/CRM connections. The storefront is the small part; the logistics behind it is the big one.

What are the costs after launch?

The build price isn't the whole price. Every month or year, the same costs recur:

  • Hosting — about 30-90 EUR a year for shared; more for busier shops.
  • Domain — 5-10 EUR for .eu, 15-20 for .com, 25-31 for .bg, every year.
  • Maintenance — 25-100 EUR a month for a small site, up to 250+ for a platform. Covers updates, backups, SSL, security and small changes.

Put these figures into your annual budget from the start — they surprise people who look only at the build price. And one more thing that's easy to miss: many quotes in Bulgaria are given ex-VAT. A 20% VAT may be added on top, so ask whether the price is with or without VAT before you compare.

Why shouldn't I just take the cheapest offer?

Because a cheap site often ends up more expensive. Slow, poorly built sites rank badly in Google (lost traffic), look untrustworthy (lost clients) and rack up repair bills. That's a false economy.

From experience: get at least three quotes, set aside a 20-30% buffer for the unexpected, and check who owns the domain, hosting and code — they should be in your name, not the developer's. A good site is an investment that brings clients back, not just an expense.

If you'd like an honest estimate for your case, no strings — get in touch. I'll tell you what you actually need, even if it's less than you expected.

Frequently asked questions

Are prices quoted with or without VAT?
It depends on the quote. Many providers in Bulgaria show prices ex-VAT and add 20% on top, so always ask whether the figure is final. In my quotes it's stated clearly whether VAT applies, so there are no surprises at the end.
Who owns the site and can I move it to another provider?
You do. The domain, hosting, design and code should be registered in your name so you can move the site to someone else any time. Always check this in the contract — it protects you from being locked in to one provider.
How long does it take to build a website?
A landing page usually takes 1-2 weeks, a full site 3-6 weeks, and a shop or CMS site 6-10 weeks, depending on how quickly copy and photos arrive. The most common cause of delay isn't development — it's content.
Are copy, photos and SEO included in the price?
Not always — so ask explicitly. Some quotes include copy, photos, page count, number of revisions and language versions; others charge them separately. In my quotes it's spelled out what's in and what's not, including the support window after launch.
How much is monthly website maintenance?
For a small site, monthly maintenance is around 25-100 EUR; for a larger platform it reaches 100-250+ EUR. It covers updates, backups, SSL, security and small content changes. For the landing page, the first 6 months are 160 EUR, after which support drops to 50 EUR a month.
Template or custom design — is the difference worth it?
A template is cheaper and faster, but it looks like thousands of other sites and is often slower and harder to change. Custom design costs more, but ranks better, loads faster and builds trust. If the site is your business's storefront, the difference is usually worth it.
